“We and the Law”: IUCA Law Students Teach Legal Literacy to Schoolchildren
First steps into law - through education and engagement

On May 17, 2025, first-year Law students at the International University of Central Asia held a series of legal awareness workshops titled “We and the Law” for 8th to 11th grade students.

The workshops were part of their academic practice at the IUCA Legal Clinic and aimed to develop students’ basic understanding of law, raise legal awareness, and encourage respect for legal principles.

The sessions included three main topics:

  • “What is the state and why do we need it” — introducing government structure and the citizen’s role;

  • “What is law and how it protects us” — covering rights, responsibilities, and how the legal system works;

  • “Responsibility and the rights of minors” — discussing youth rights and the legal consequences of their actions.

Interactive formats helped make the sessions engaging and accessible. Schoolchildren actively participated in discussions, solved legal case studies, and asked thoughtful questions.

The “We and the Law” initiative is a powerful example of how students can already make a meaningful contribution to society by fostering legal culture and awareness among young people.
