English Linguistics Program

On April 23, the International University of Central Asia was filled with a special atmosphere of creativity, inspiration, and celebration as the annual English Language Day 2026 took place. The event was organized by the English Linguistics Program, and from the very first moments, students created a festive mood by decorating the university halls with themed zones.

The preparation process involved active student participation at every stage: they contributed to the decorations, created original video content — including a creative video inspired by The Office — and took on the role of volunteers. This made the event not only vibrant but also truly interactive and practice-oriented.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Aselia Adylbek and Aiperi Djumabekova from the English Linguistics Program. From the very beginning, the event set an energetic tone as two iconic symbols of English-speaking countries took the stage — Uncle Sam, representing the United States, and Britannica, representing the United Kingdom — creating an atmosphere of friendly competition and strong team spirit.

Guests enjoyed a rich and diverse program. The official opening featured a welcoming speech by IUCA President John Clark. Throughout the event, students delighted the audience with live musical performances: Dias performed the jazz classic Fly Me to the Moon, Kanykei presented the lyrical Just the Two of Us, and Dias together with Simara performed City of Stars. Dance groups showcased Dracula Waltz and an energetic cheerleading performance, while first-year students of the English Linguistics program concluded the performance segment with their own dance.

The highlight of the intellectual part was the Brain Battle quiz, which brought together eight teams representing different academic programs: Bloom, Human Factor, English Bosses, Justice, Far Far Away, CORTEX, STARS, and Pearl of Kyrgyzstan. The quiz consisted of four rounds covering the English language, British and American pop culture, geography and traditions of the English-speaking world, as well as the history and life of IUCA. The final round added extra excitement, awarding 2 points for a correct answer and subtracting 1 point for an incorrect one.

A true highlight of the event was the Movie Cosplay Show, featuring students from three programs — Pedagogy, Linguistics, and International Relations. The winner was determined through live audience voting via QR code. The event concluded with a karaoke session, where everyone had the opportunity to participate.

Special attention was given to a theatrical performance — a modern interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, prepared by students and warmly received by the audience.

The award ceremony was held with the participation of representatives of the English Linguistics Program — Natalia Ruzieva and Alena Maksakova.
