On April 29, 2026, a debate tournament was held within the Law program at the IUCA on the motion: “This house supports the introduction of the death penalty.”
The event brought together 10 students divided into two teams: the Government (supporting the motion) and the Opposition (arguing against it). The tournament followed a structured parliamentary debate format with clearly defined speaker roles and judging criteria.

The Government team presented a case and a detailed model for implementing the death penalty, including applicable crimes, procedural safeguards, and enforcement mechanisms. The Opposition team challenged the model from a human rights perspective, highlighted the risks of judicial errors, and proposed alternative punishments.
Participants were evaluated based on the quality of their case and model, argumentation, rebuttal, strategy, public speaking, and teamwork. The winner was determined by a panel of three judges. Additionally, an audience vote was held to award the Audience Choice prize.
The tournament served as an effective platform for developing critical thinking, public speaking, and legal analysis skills.
