Meerim Nurgazieva, a student of the International Relations program at the International University of Central Asia (IUCA), successfully passed the competitive selection process and became one of 45 participants in the “Youth Sail” programme, a fully funded educational initiative supported by the European Union and focused on developing young leaders, volunteers, and emerging civil society professionals in Kyrgyzstan.
More than 200 applications were submitted from across Kyrgyzstan, with only 45 participants selected from different regions of the country.
The first stage of the programme was a seven-day educational camp at Issyk-Kul, where participants explored topics related to human rights, leadership, training, and facilitation. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and team activities, they developed practical skills in teamwork, active listening, effective questioning, critical and creative thinking, communication, and reflection.
An important contribution to the learning experience was made by the programme’s experienced trainers — Eduard, Vera, Diyora, and Ibragim — who provided professional guidance, shared their expertise, and supported participants throughout the programme.
The “Youth Sail” programme is still ongoing, with further stages ahead. Meerim looks forward to applying the knowledge and skills gained through the programme in future youth, educational, and civic initiatives.
Participation of IUCA students in programmes of this kind expands opportunities for practice-oriented learning beyond the university and contributes to the development of leadership, communication, and civic engagement competencies that are particularly valuable for future professionals in international relations.
