IUCA Celebrates the 250th Anniversary of Jane Austen
Students and faculty of the English Linguistics Program at the International University of Central Asia held a vibrant cultural and educational event dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the English writer Jane Austen.

On December 16, 2025, a cultural and educational event celebrating the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth took place at the International University of Central Asia. The event was organized by the English Linguistics Program.

The celebration brought together first- to fourth-year students who delivered presentations on Jane Austen’s life and works, discussed why her novels remain relevant more than two and a half centuries later, took part in an interactive quiz, prepared a theatrical performance based on her novels, and presented musical pieces. A special highlight of the event was an art competition inspired by Jane Austen’s works, where students demonstrated creativity and artistic thinking.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Raisa Abdrakhmanova, Head of the Research and Science Department, and Alena Maksakova, Head of the English Linguistics Program. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of studying classical English literature as an essential part of linguistic and cultural education.

The student performances were prepared under the academic supervision of Natalia Ruzieva, Leila Serikova, Roman Valvakov, and Zamira Satarova, whose professional guidance and support played an important role in the successful implementation of the event.

The celebration of Jane Austen’s anniversary became more than an academic activity — it turned into a true cultural celebration, showing that English literature can be lively, engaging, and unifying for both students and faculty.
