On March 9, the English Linguistics Program at the International University of Central Asia welcomed Fulbright Scholar Monica Zhang, who conducted a workshop for students on the new TOEFL iBT format and strategies for studying abroad.

Monica previously worked with the English Linguistics Program at IUCA during her Fulbright placement last year. Her return visit provided students with an opportunity to reconnect and benefit from her expertise.

During the workshop, students learned about the updated 2026 TOEFL iBT format, including the structure of the exam, the scoring system, and effective preparation strategies. Participants completed short practice activities simulating different sections of the test, including reading, listening, and speaking tasks.

The session also addressed important skills for students considering international education. Monica shared practical advice on writing a strong personal statement, presenting ideas clearly, and supporting arguments with concrete examples.

The workshop created a lively and interactive learning environment where students actively participated in discussions and asked questions about studying abroad, the application process, and academic opportunities overseas.

As part of her visit, Monica also met with several General English classes, where students had the chance to interact with a native speaker, practice conversational English, and learn more about academic and cultural experiences in the United States.

The event was organized by the English Linguistics Program as part of its ongoing efforts to connect students with international scholars and expand opportunities for academic and professional development.
