The International University of Central Asia celebrated National Language Day in style at its beautiful new campus. The programme of events included academic presentations: “The Current State of the Kyrgyz Language” (Alchinova Erkinai, PED 123); ‘Code-shifting among bilingual students at IUCA’ (Evgenia Tachieva, PED 125); a social video of a survey of students on measures to improve their command of the Kyrgyz language in modern conditions, as well as musical performances, dances, poems about the native language, and a visual quiz on Kyrgyz proverbs. IUCA President John Rosslyn Clark delivered a welcoming speech in Kyrgyz, noting the important role of language knowledge in education.
