On May 23, 2026, the National Student Intensive on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) was held at the International University of Central Asia (IUCA) in Tokmok.
The event was organized by the Coordination Council on IHL Teaching in the Kyrgyz Republic, IUCA, KRSU, and AIU, with the support of the Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Intensive was dedicated to World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day and a significant anniversary — the 100th anniversary of the Red Crescent Society of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event brought together eight of the strongest teams from leading universities of the Kyrgyz Republic. The program consisted of an IHL video competition and an interactive intellectual quiz, providing students with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of international humanitarian law, creativity, logical reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
During the video competition, participants presented three-minute videos dedicated to IHL. Many teams explored the relationship between the Manas epic and IHL, as well as the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The winners of the video competition were KRSU’s “Lex nomadica,” IUCA’s “МУЦАшники,” and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic’s “Guarda cor.” The jury also gave special recognition to KRSU’s second team, “Kanykei.”
The second part of the Intensive featured an IHL intellectual quiz consisting of four rounds. Participants answered theoretical questions, solved practical cases, and completed tasks requiring logic and close attention.
Following the four rounds, IUCA’s “Dunanovtsy” team won first place, AIU’s “Ala-Too” team took second place, and the “Legati Pacis” team of the Law Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic placed third.
The winners of the video competition and the quiz received diplomas and commemorative gifts, while all participating teams were awarded certificates. Participants also received IHL literature and promotional gifts from the co-organizers.
The National Student Intensive provided an important platform for strengthening inter-university cooperation, promoting knowledge of international humanitarian law, and developing students’ professional, analytical, critical-thinking, and teamwork skills.
