On March 23, 2024, the International University in Central Asia hosted the “Speak to Inspire: the Battle of Words” English speech contest. This event, initiated by the English Linguistics program, celebrated World Speech Day with participants from Tokmok and other schools, the Humanities and Technical College of IUCA, and the English Access Microscholarship Program.

Alena Maksakova, the program head, alongside associate professor Roman Valvakov, inaugurated the event. They highlighted the significance of World Speech Day as a reminder of the power of words and the potential for change through public speaking. They commended all participants for their courage to express their beliefs and aspirations publicly, deeming them winners for their bravery.

Contestants spoke on timely topics such as “Self-confidence”, “Failure is the First Step to Success”, “Dream Work”, “Vegetarianism”, “Brain and Thinking”, “The impact of social networks on interpersonal relationships” and others. Their presentations were engaging, memorable, and motivational.

The jury, comprising R.V. Valvakov, E.V. Durova, and A.T. Abdyldaeva, evaluated the speeches against ten criteria to announce the winners. Davran Baratov, a student of HTC, took the first place, followed by Liliia Lulakova from secondary school № 1 named after V.F. Markov in second, and Shahbano Shah, also from HTC, in third. The victors were awarded certificates and memorable gifts, while all contestants received participation certificates.

The event was notably warm and enlightening, owing to the remarkable hosting by Cholpon Kupsuldaeva, a fourth-year IUCA student, and the exceptional contribution of volunteers Azhara Zholdoshbekova, Ziiada Namasbekova, and Anna Silina. Beyond the speeches, the event featured a coffee break and an engaging game.

We extend our congratulations to the winners and all participants for their outstanding oratory performances and valuable insights. Looking forward to the next speech contest, we invite the schoolchildren of Kyrgyzstan to participate in this event.
