
Exploring Cultures Through Stories and Places: the Second Virtual Session of the Virtual Cultural Exchange
The second virtual session of the Virtual Cultural Exchange between STLCC and IUCA took place on February 27, 2025, further strengthening cross-cultural dialogue and academic collaboration. The session featured a virtual tour of STLCC’s campus, a presentation on St. Louis and Missouri, and an interactive quiz on local culture. A highlight of the event was IUCA student Akynov Adil’s recitation of the Manas epic, which introduced STLCC students to Kyrgyz oral traditions and sparked discussions on folklore and cultural heritage.
This collaborative program is made possible in part by the support of the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center (IAUNRC) at Indiana University, which plays a key role in promoting cross-cultural educational initiatives.
On February 27, 2025, from 21:30 to 23:00, students from STLCC and IUCA participated in the second session of the Virtual Cultural Exchange course, further strengthening cross-cultural communication and academic collaboration.
The session began with STLCC students providing a virtual walkthrough of their college campus, offering IUCA students a glimpse into their academic life. This was followed by a presentation on St. Louis and Missouri, showcasing historical sites, cultural landmarks, and local traditions. To make the experience more interactive, participants took part in a quiz on regional culture and landmarks, engaging in a fun and educational exchange.
IUCA students actively contributed to the session, sharing their perspectives and asking insightful questions. A highlight of the evening was a captivating Manas epic performance by first-year BA student Akynov Adil, who impressed STLCC students with his powerful recitation. His performance not only introduced them to Kyrgyz oral traditions but also sparked discussions about the importance of folklore and cultural heritage in different societies.
The session was filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and meaningful conversations, allowing students to explore new perspectives, practice English, and develop a deeper appreciation for global cultures. The strong engagement from both sides continues to drive the success of this program, ensuring even more enriching experiences in future sessions.
