BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ECONOMICS

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA) Pro­gram at the International University in Central Asia was established on July, 2010.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The four-year full time BA program offers an excellent opportunity for highly motivated stu­dents interested both in academic and profes­sional career. The courses in theoretical and ap­plied economics, taught in Russian and English.

Program students are also becoming fully proficient in the English language and in the use of modern computer technology. IUCA pro­vides the access to library and computer facilities, which includes Internet access. Our computer labs and the library offer the newest technology and continuously updated resources.

Highly experienced and dedicated faculty members teach all courses. All of the lecturers invited to teach in the program have a solid knowledge of economics and related fields that is derived from academic, research or practi­cal experience.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
The objective of the BA (Economics) Program is to offer students an understanding of market-oriented economics by applying the best aca­demic practices and standards from around the world. Taking into account the values and needs of the Central Asian economic community, the program has been also giving an emphasis to the issues of economies in transition.

The program prepares students to effectively manage private and public policy problems by having students learn how to analyze a wide range of issues from an economic perspective and by proposing appropriate decisions. Thus, the graduates of the BA program in Economics acquire necessary skills to pursue diverse career opportunities or continue education at a post­graduate level in Central Asia or abroad.

CURRICULUM
The curriculum of the Economics program consists of three sections: core courses, pro­gram electives, and courses from "Business Administration" program. Besides the core courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics students are offered upper-division courses in such fields as Quantitative Analysis in Economics and Finance and Banking. Additionally, economics major students are free to choose electives offered by other programs.

The remaining 51-54 credits (exclusive of a graduation qualification paper) or 46-48 credits (inclusive of a graduation qualification paper) may be taken as courses additional courses in economics and BA, English or required courses within the chosen minor.
