15/04/2010: On the basis of the papers submitted to the Conference the Organizational Committee has selected participants of the Conference.
Members of the Organizational Committee, who reviewed papers: John Clark, Vice-president of Academic Affairs; Tsoy Marina, PhD in Political Science from Eichstaett University, Germany; Nuria Kutnaeva, Head of the International Relations Program.
Criteria for the selection were: paper was scientifically valuable, interesting, and not plagiarized. In fact, our University pays much attention to the academic honesty. All selected participants should e-mail their proofread and edited papers with their bios and short abstracts. The deadline is April 19.
5/04/2010: On April 4, 2010 we finished accepting applications for participation in the conference "Contemporary Challenges to the Security of Central Asia". All participants should have received a confirmation message from us. The selection process will continue until 18 of April. The results will be announced on this site.
The competition among potential participants of the Conference is 3 people per place. Applicants are from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Japan, Belgium, China, and Turkey.

First Annual IUCA Conference for students and scholars
"Contemporary Challenges to the Security of Central Asia"

The International University of Central Asia is pleased to announce the program for the First Annual IUCA Conference on "Contemporary Challenges to the Security of Central Asia". The conference is to be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan.
We invite:
- Researchers, teachers, postgraduates, doctoral students, scholars;
- Students studying for a degree in Diplomacy and International Relations, Political Science, International Business, and Linguistics – for the section on the Development of the Kyrgyz Language;
- Other professionals interested in the topics of the conference.
This conference is held for exchange of scientific and practical experiences, ideas, opinions and projects of the subject.
The expected keynote speakers are well-known diplomats, politicians and political scientists.
Conference topics (sections):
1. Afghanistan and Central Asia – challenges or possibilities?
2. Water-energy balance in Central Asia.
3. Integration in Central Asia – myth or reality?
4. Section for specialists in Kyrgyz philology – Is there any future for the state language in Kyrgyzstan?
The official language of the conference will be Russian. However, the Organizing Committee will also accept presentations in English. Interpreters will be provided upon the request.
Deadline for submission of papers and applications – April, 4.
Only a limited number of applications will be accepted. Preference will be given to those planning to attend the Conference. A list of registered participants will be put up on this website on April, 18. The selected participants will also be informed by email.
Participation in the conference and publication of papers is free. We do not pay for any travel costs including airfares and hotel accommodation for the conference participants.
Conference proceedings will be published in a special collection of conference materials, as well as posted on the IUCA website http://iuca.kg.
The best papers will be noted by the organizing committee. Money prize for the 1st place – 5 thousand soms, for the 2nd place – 3 thousand soms, for the 3rd place – 1 thousand soms. Preference will be given to those planning to attend the Conference.
In order to participate in the conference one should submit:
1) an application to the Organizing Committee (see Attachment # 1) and
2) paper (see Attachment #2 ).

2. Oral presentation and publication.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to change the form of participation or not to accept the publication.

Attachment # 2. General requirements for submission papers and for oral presentations
Summary of Technical Requirements
- Times New Roman style, 12 pt.,
- Line spacing 1,
- Justified.
- Margins: 2 cm left, top, bottom and right.
- The maximum number of pages is 4 pages, appendices and bibliography included.
Oral Presentation Requirements
The time for each oral presentation is strictly limited to 10 minutes. Overhead projectors and notebooks will be provided for your presentation.
If you need any help to run your presentation, you should contact the Organizational Committee providing a special scenario message with details about your presentation requirements.
Requirements for Presentation Slides:
On the first slide of your presentation you should put (in Russian or in English):
- higher education institution;
- department;
- paper’s name;
- your name;
- year.
Please pay attention: authors are responsible for proofreading their papers for grammar and stylistic errors. There will not be any additional editing!
The Organizing Committee will not consider papers:
1) which are sent after the deadline (April 4), or
2) which neglect the above mentioned requirements.
